Ward graduated as a MD from the university of Antwerp and obtained a master in biostatistics at the university of Limburg and later a master in data science from the university of Dundee. While being researcher at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Belgium, he received a PhD in medicine from the University of Antwerp, evaluating quality of HIV care in a European context.

He worked at Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg as advisor to the medical director. Over ten years he was a consultant epidemiologist for international organisations in the Caribbean region. He worked as médecin DIM at the Centre Hospitalier de Cayenne and holds a position at the University of Hasselt as part of the patient safety/healthcare engineering group.

Ward joined P95 as epidemiologist in January 2021.
